The last year or so, I’ve been cranking out a lot of short material for table top role playing games (TTRPGs). Yes, Dungeons & Dragons, although you aren’t legally supposed to say that since the owners are very strict about their property. “The most popular fantasy TTRPG in the world” is one phrase that’s used. Although you can use them with other games like Pathfinder, Castles & Crusades, and others.
Actually, I make sure my content is system agnostic – that is, you can use it regardless of the gaming system you use in playing your TTRPG. For fantasy games, I’ve got several series of PDFs. Most of them are two-page files that game masters (GMs) can print off, or use right from a mobile device. Non-player characters (NPCs) – that is, people the players meet during the game. Unique Items and Unique Locations both seem to be popular, along with Wanted posters and Story Seeds.
What seems to be most popular lately are the PDFs I’ve created for “dystopian near future” games. Some of the more popular ones are the Cyberpunk series of games, as well as Shadowrun, Carbon 2185, and The Sprawl. In case you’re interested, the Swedish company Free League is publishing the (English language) licensed edition of Blade Runner, which hit store shelves in 2023.
Like any other type of series writing, it’s taken me quite some time to get enough content together so that it can sell reasonably well. May of 2022 has been my best month yet, clearing nearly the same amount in one month as I’d sold in an entire year. And I still have a few days – and two more titles – to go!
My gaming PDFs are sold exclusively through a site called DriveThru RPG. Feel free to check out my store here: bit.ly/dtrpg-drp
